Small farming with a mix of practices from the wisdom of traditional practices and some efficiencies in modern husbandry, my goal is to continue with an overall holistic approach. I am beginning my goat journey with kiko-dairy crosses focusing on parasite resistance, growth rates, foraging abilities, extended lactations, and good temperaments toward humans and herdmates.
I have not needed to deworm a goat in my breeding program as of this point and I strive to use rotational grazing techniques, appropriate mineral balancing, as well as genetic selection to battle barber pole worm.
I focus on foraging ability so my goats are able to maintain condition and productivity with a forage only approach. I maintain to feed only high quality hay that is soft, green, and has a high percentage (over 50%) alfalfa as well as supplementing with alfalfa pellets for growing or lactating animals.
Herbal (1)-Conventional (10) 1-10 Scale: 5
Parasite Protocol: Animals that need deworming are culled. Parasite loads are managed with rotational grazing in the warm months, higher protein diets, and mineral balancing.
Vaccination Protocols: No Vaccinations
