We raise our goats for meat and dairy as naturally as possible. Now that we have gotten our mineral bar, our dreams have become a reality. We make as much as we can ourselves from soap, shampoo and conditioner, even goat milk laundry soap but also we raise our own meat, make our own cheese and create as many things from scratch as we can. Self sustaining, clean living is our goal. We have taken some goats with some pretty bad issues and turned them around and also learned some pretty tough lessons along the way to finding the holistic balance. We also raise Rabbits and are creating a new meat breed, chickens, ducks, have 2 livestock dogs, 2 pet Bostons and some cats and kittens we love. The “We” part is myself, my husband and my son.
We use a mineral bar vs a mineral from a chain store so our animals get just what they individually need. Since we have heavy milkers, grain is a must to keep them healthy and fit. We also feed high quality alfalfa hay year round. Our boys are on pasture with rotational grazing. We test for CAE and Johnes annually with a blood test. While we feel preventative care and management is the best, if one of our animals needed something more in a life or death situation, we do not believe in avoiding treatment by a vet. If any medication were to be given to an animal, a full withdrawal period would be done properly before any food would be given from that animal be it milk or meat. We do not believe in animal suffering.
Herbal (1)-Conventional (10) 1-10 Scale: 3
Parasite Protocol: We use herbal wormers only when needed. Land and pen management for prevention is key. We do not find we have issues with this often.
Vaccination Protocols: Partial Vaccinations
