Farm Management
We embody a "less is more" approach, trusting in the animal's innate instinct and staying out of the way as much as is possible. Animals are raised with a holistic approach that looks at the whole environment: space/exercise, ability to express natural inclinations, quality nutrition and, as important as all the rest, what I like to call the "happiness factor." I firmly believe they are healthier and happier when allowed, as much as is possible within our limitations, to fulfill their natural tendencies including obtaining their own food, raising their own offspring and making their own decisions about when to seek shelter, etc.
Animals are given no routine medications or herbal remedies of any kind, but are treated on an individual basis as needed. When medications are required, they are herbal, natural options. We haven't used conventional antibiotics or other pharmaceuticals in years - our last holdout was parasite control and we switched fully to herbal parasite treatments in 2018 or 2019.
In summer, animals are on a lush bottomland pasture with no hay and in winter they remain on pasture but are fed alfalfa. We always keep Free Choice Enterprises mineral buffet available.
Parasite Protocol:
We use an essential oil parasite formula when indicated by FAMACHA scores.
Vaccination Protocols: No Vaccinations
- Disbudding
- Castrating
