We are a small homestead that originally started because one of our children has a rare genetic disorder that caused her to be allergic to nearly every conventional food on the market. That started our research and eventual homestead where we began with poultry (first chickens, then ducks, geese, and lastly turkeys), and branched out into Nigerian Dwarf goats (so we could make our own soaps and lotions that would be safe for our special blessing). We’ve recently added heritage rabbits to our homestead and have begun working toward adding more livestock as we learn the skills to do so. All of our goats are grain free, fed browse and hay throughout the year. We have offered a variety of minerals before, but we are switching to the mineral buffet and do yearly testing, even though we have a closed herd and follow biosecurity protocol. Our poultry livestock are raised in tractors and moved around to freely dig/scratch in our garden and/or pastures. Our rabbits are raised in tractors as well, and moved to fresh grass/pasture in rotation.
