We are a homestead located in the beautiful Hidden Valley, outside of Maricopa, AZ. At Risible Ranch, we raise ADGA registered Lamancha and Nigerian Dwarf and TMGR/MDGA registered Mini-Lamancha dairy goats, chickens, and turkeys. We raise our dairy goats for milk production, conformation, and sustainability. We participate in O/S 305 day performance milk testing and Linear Appraisals (when available.)
We strive to raise our animals as naturally as possible, with a few exceptions. We have discontinued regular CDT vaccination (but will still vaccinate at buyers request.)
We started with a horned herd, but after a few stuck in the fence incidents during the heat of the Arizona desert summer, we now will disbud any goat born here (that is not paid for in full prior) for the safety of our animals. We also castrate any bucklings that will not be used as a buck by 12 weeks of age.
While we do not primarily dam raise our goats for multiple reasons, we do believe in the importance of free choice milk and its importance to growth and development, as well as practicing extended weaning. Our goats are provided free choice goat milk up to 6 months of age.
We use holistic management of our goats and only use chemical medications if absolutely necessary. Most goats in our herd have never received chemical medications, as we are breeding for healthy, hardy goats with strong immune systems. We assess every situation that leads to the use of chemicals to determine if that animal is beneficial to our breeding program.
We do try to feed organic, but have found that with sustainable, locally sourced options, the branding of organic is not always an option, or better (its expensive to be certified!)
