Dear Lads Farm is a small, family run business located on the Wisconsin/Illinois stateline in the Midwest. All of our animals and produce are grown using holistic principles, focusing on what is best for the animals, plants and the land. We raise Saanen, Nubian and Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, Kune kune and Idaho Pasture Pigs, Silver Appleyard ducks, and a blend of heritage breed chickens that free range around our farm. Visit our website to learn more!
Well-nourished animals are more likely to stay well and are quicker to respond to natural methods of helping them heal when needed. We focus on prevention and creating strong, healthy animals, as we've found this works a lot better than constantly trying to "put out fires"!
Our chickens and ducks free range around our farm and are fed an organic blend of soaked grains plus diatomaceous earth and poultry minerals to supplement their foraging.
Our pigs are raised on pasture and supplemented with an organic blend of grains, kelp, raw milk, and scraps from our garden.
We practice rotational grazing with our goats, and the chickens also have access to their pasture for parasite management. Our focus in breeding is milk production, strength of the animal, and parasite resilience. Our Nigerian Dwarfs are registered; we also offer grade Saanens and Nubians at this time. We are focusing our breeding program on creating purebred lines, especially of the Sable Saanens, as we do not find many of this wonderful breed in the holistic community! Our goats have access 24/7 to our own version of a mineral buffet, including kelp, mineral blends, selenium, zinc, copper and MSM (as needed). We use cell salts, homeopathy, herbs and essential oils in the health management of our herd
Herbal (1)-Conventional (10) 1-10 Scale: 1
Parasite Protocol: 100% herbal and plant based. We use Fir Meadows herbal products, fresh and dried herbs grown on our farm, and essential oils as needed. We also offer herbs free choice mixed in kelp; raw garlic is given daily seasonally. We continue to work to improve the health of our pastures and practice rotational grazing to lessen the need for intervention on our part. Our pigs graze in the fall on black walnut hulls from the many walnut trees on our property.
We do not use conventional dewormers.
